João Manuel Leitão Quintas was born on 1st of August, 1983, in Crato, Portugal.

He received the MSc. in Electrical and Computer Engeneering (specialization in Computer Systems) from the "Faculdade de Ciência e Tecnologia da Universidade de Coimbra" in 2009.

He collaborates with the Mobile Robotics Laboraty at ISR-Coimbra since 2008.

Between 2008 and 2011, he was a researcher within the FP7 European funded project Prometheus, where he was involved in the activities of technical management and Human Behaviour Analysis.

In 2011 he joined the Laboratory of Automatic and Systems at Instituto Pedro Nunes, where he is currently collaborating within the Portuguese QREN funded TICE.Healhy, AAL4ALL and the European AAL funded Co-living projects.

He did is Phd in“Context-based Human-Machine Interaction Framework for Artificial Social Companions” at FCTUC.

His main research interests are related to Context Modeling, Automatic Human Behaviour Recognition, Scene Understanding, Semantic Maps. Former PhD student at ISR, completed in 2018, current Research AssociateLaboratory of Automatic and Systems at Instituto Pedro Nunes, Coimbra, Portugal
